Revell 1/72 now available!
Resin Remove Before Flight covers and plugs set for Tornado RAF GR1, GR4 and F3. The sets are currently available for the Italeri 1/32 kit and Revell 1/32, 1/48 and 1/72 kits. I will be looking at Hasegawa 1/72 soon.
Uniquely modelled by a former Tornado pilot to provide an accurate representation of covers and plugs as used by the RAF Tornadoes when they were in service - they will naturally fit GAF, IAF AND RSAF models as well.
These covers allow a great way of showing the aircraft as it would have been parked overnight, in maintenance, or when away from base. They are a great addition to my existing set of engine intake, exhaust covers and blanks also available.
Designed individually for a snug push on fit, they should not require any gluing except for the lightweight AOA gauge covers that replace the kit AOA gauges. Everything else can be interchanged between models of the same scale/make. Please be aware that the Lower UHF aerial and LRMTS covers have been designed to cling to their places on the kit, but there is no guarantee of this.
The set complete and sent in a sealed ziplock bag comprises of the following:
(A) 3 x ‘light’ AOA Gauge cover (a spare as they are very small)
(B) 1 x AOA Gauge cover aligned vertically for the left side
(C) 1 x AOA Gauge cover aligned horizontally for the right side
(D) 2 x Secondary Heat Exchanger inlet plug (a spare as they are very small). Not 1/72
(E) 2 x Secondary Heat Exchanger outlet plug (a spare as they are very small) Not 1/72
(F) 1 x APU Exhaust cover
(G) 1 x Lower UHF Aerial cover
(H) 1 x HUD cover (Italeri set only)
(I) 1 x LRMTS cover with access door
(J) 1 x LRMTS cover without access door
(K) 1 x Pitot Probe cover for the left side (see notes below for 1/48)
(L) 1 x Pitot Probe cover for the right side (see notes below for 1/48)

ITALERI 1/32
The Primary Heat Exchanger outlet covers are designed to be push fit with the PE grills from the kit in place - there are alternatives provided if the PE grills are omitted from your build.
ITALERI and REVELL 1/32
I’ve increased the scale size of the pins in the covers to allow 0.2mm wire to be threaded through where required.
AOA Gauge covers are longer than scale size to accommodate the kit AOA Gauges inside.
All pin rings are designed to hang down - helps with working out which Pitot Probe cover to use on what side.
REVELL 1/32
The set does not include a HUD cover as the kit parts are not conducive to fitting a cover.
The cover is flat and will need to be stuck to the kit model as there is no APU exhaust hole modelled in the kit.
The wingtip bungs are all the same size for the main wings and tailerons.
The Secondary Heat Exchanger outlet is designed to be stuck in the basic gap on the kit as this is not modelled particularly accurately.
REVELL 1/48
The set does not include a HUD cover as the kit parts are not conducive to fitting a cover.
The Secondary Heat Exchanger outlet is designed look half cut off to fit in the gap on the kit.
The Pitot Probe covers can fit either side as at 1/48 scale, the detail is less than 1/32. However, the kit Pitot Probes are too long for the scale - a cover to fit them would look too big, so there are four (two spares as they are small and delicate) correctly sized Pitot Probes supplied that the cover will fit over to provide the builder with a choice.
REVELL 1/72
The set is slightly reduced due to the extremely small sizes involved.
The photos show some of the pieces of the Italeri 1/32 set in place for an idea - the RBF Tags are not included. Due to the size and nature of these resin pieces, they are delicate. Please bear this in mind when purchasing and be careful with them - they are easily lost! If you think a cover or plug that should be included in the set has been missed, please let me know.
