This Sherman M4A3E8 [76]W "Thunderbolt VII" tank was the command vehicle of LT Col Creighton Abrams who fought in this tank through northwest europe and across the Rhine into Germany.

He was commander of the 37th Tank Battalion of the 4th Armored Division.

He was an aggressive commander and his unit was frequently in the vanguard of the Third Army’s advance across Northwest Europe.

While the Sherman was outmatched by larger and heavily armed German tanks, Abrams used the reliability and speed of his own vehicles to overcome his adversaries.
