HMV Gramophone Manual Brake and Governor Leather Pads

This Kit Includes: THREE 1" long pieces of approximately 4 mm x 4 mm Leather Brake Pad Material.

(A 1" section is enough leather for at least three brakes or governor friction plate pads)

Also suitable for other gramophones by trimming/shaping as necessary with a sharp Stanley/Craft knife

This leather can be used for brake pads and governor friction plate pads on HMV gramophones. The leather that HMV and other companies used was cut from the thickest section of the hide and is similar to that being sold here.

Installation Hints: In most early gramophones the leather pads are held captive in a fork-like fitting that grips around the leather. Removing the old pad is simply a matter of carefully tearing/cutting away the old remnants. Installing the new pad requires great care because the forked opening must be slightly spread open in order to receive the new leather. Once in place, the fork is then very gently clamped tight using a pair of pliers or a small hobby vice. (If things do go wrong and one of the fork prongs snaps, you can use something like JB KwikWeld, which sets in 6 minutes and cures in 4-6 hours, to securely hold the leather pad in place in the fork).
