Short Title: Mappa Circuli Rhenani Superioris.

Description: Important large antique map of Hesse Germany, from Darmstadt to Kassel with an decorative title cartouche surrounded by coat of arms of the counties, lower right an explanation cartouche with mile scale surrounded by allegorical figures.

The map is copperplate engraved with hand coloring.

Cartographer: Seutter, Matthaeus, 1678-1756.
Matthaeus Seutter, German cartographer and engraver, was a contemporary and rival of Homann.
He was apprenticed to Homann and created his own business in 1707 in Augsburg.
He produced several atlases including the "Tabulae Geographicae", "Atlas Novus", and "Atlas Minor".
His maps are very similar (at least in style) to those of Homann.

Origin: Atlas Minor praecipua orbis terrarum imperia. Published in 1744 in Augsburg.
