The Australian Notes Act of 1910 stipulated that private banks could no longer issue any form of money, and that any note or instrument issued by a Bank would no longer be considered legal tender. In 1913, the first national banknotes were introduced in denominations of ten shillings (10s), one pound (£1), 5 pound (£5) and ten pound (£10). Twenty pound (£20), fifty pound (£50), one hundred pound (£100) and one thousand pound notes (£1000) appeared for the first time in 1914.
