ONE OF THE HIGHEST RANKS IN SCOUTING

Eagle Scout is the highest achievement or rank attainable in the Scouts BSA program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Since its inception in 1911, only four percent of Scouts have earned this rank after a lengthy review process. The Eagle Scout rank has been earned by over 2.5 million youth.

Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges. The Eagle Scout must demonstrate Scout Spirit, an ideal attitude based upon the Scout Oath and Law, service, and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages. Eagle Scouts are presented with a medal and a badge that visibly recognizes the accomplishments of the Scout. Additional recognition can be earned through Eagle Palms, awarded for completing additional tenure, leadership, and merit badge requirements.

The Eagle Scout award medal has always been the same basic design.  The first Boy Scout Handbooks illustrated other designs but they were never created. The first Eagle Scout medal was presented in August 1912.

Eagle Medals are classified by the manufacturer who produced the medals. In order from oldest to newest, these companies are: T.H. Foley (1912-1915), Dieges and Clust (1916-1919), Robbins (1920-1978), Stange (1968-1999), CFJ (1999-present).

In 1999 the Boy Scouts of America contracted with a new manufacturer to produce the Eagle Scout Badge. Both the Custom Fine Jewelry Company in Fort Worth, Texas and Stange Company produced Eagle Badges in 1999.

The CFJ medal began in May 1999 and produced a fairly clean looking Eagle pendant. Gone however was the classic ‘old-time’ look to the Eagle.

CFJ 3 2001-2006 Identification: 

The pendant was also as large as they have ever been produced. These medals came in both sterling silver (marked ‘925 CFJ’ on the back of the tail feathers) and non-sterling (with just ‘CFJ’ on the back of the tail feathers. The non-sterling has a 34mm wingspan and the sterling has a 31mm wingspan. The back of the scroll has two pins with a clutch attachment system.

This auction is for a vintage Boy Scouts of America award pin for the rank of Eagle Scout Medal made by the Custom Fine Jewelry Co. It is marked with the "CFJ" inside a square. 

Condition: This handsome award is in absolutely NEW CONDITION, still in original coffin case

This collection belonged to a life-long Scouter who passed away in 2000. He earned his Eagle award about the age of 17, which would make it around 1959 (ish). He spent his life devoted to Scouting serving as Scoutmaster and at Boy Scout summer camps for over 15 years in positions from counselor to eventually camp director.

He was a ten year member and Vice President of the local Volunteer Fire Co., ten year member of the area Hazardous Materials Response Team and the town Tax Payer's Association and was an Eagle Scout with Gold & Silver Palms, one of the highest ranks in Scouting.

A bronze palm represents five additional merit badges, a gold palm 10, and a silver palm 15. 1 gold palm and 1 silver palm = 46 total merit badges (21 required + 25 additional)

I cannot divulge his identity because I don't have the family's permission, nor sufficient background information on him.
