Vintage And Very Rare Philippine Colonial Period Postcard: "Igorote Girls Orchestra At Mrs. Kelly's School Baguio, P.I".  The latter is printed in white letters at the bottom.  The native guitar orchestra is shown with their leader, a male Ifugao teacher, impeccably dressed in suit and tie that is called the "Americana" in the Philippines to this day.  The photograph is a perfect example of "benevolent" assimilation of Filipinos by their American masters during the Colonial Period, conversion, rather than violence, being the most powerful tool of every colonizer.

This is an original, single-weight silver-gelatin print, NOT a lithographic or digital reproduction, printed in postcard format for wider dissemination. Taken (and possibly printed) by an unidentified American professional photographer during the American Occupation/Colonial Period (1900-1945).  As a musico- ethnographic subject, the Ifugao and other tribes of the Cordillera Mountains are the most photographed and studied people of the Philippines to this day by scholars.  Their art, including their exquisite basketry, is coveted and collected worldwide.  Photographs such as this will enhance every Ifugao Art collection.

Standard Postcard size:  3.5 X 5.5 inches.

Fine.  Beautifully printed directly from the original negative on thick postcard paper.  The silver-gelatin print has a matte finish that has almost no wear or rubbing despite being between seventy to eighty years old.  NO sticker or paper residue on the back.
