Offered here is this original 1930's oil on canvas board painting by American artist Ethelyn Cosby Stewart (Am. b. 1900 Arlington NJ  d. 1972)  Ethelyn Stewart produced mostly still life paintings, many with Asian antiques and plants.  This painting is an excellent example of her work . It is signed in the lower right corner, Ethelyn C. Stewart.  Date is cocered slightly by the frame,  but appears to be 1932, or 33.  Stewart's work is in the Smithsonian, as well as the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.  Her original works are scarce on the market and auction records are few.  Most of what is available are prints of her still life paintings, some of which are on eBay now.  The oil painting is on a canvas board which measures 16" x 20". It is in a period frame and titled on the back, "#10 Yellow Freesia in Celadon Bowl". It has a small paper label which reads: "Warren E. Cox /Collection/ New York. Warren E Cox was an antiques dealer and ceramics expert who for many years maintained a gallery on East 39th Street in Manhattan. This painting was part of his collection/ inventory.  Cox died in 1977.  Painting is in low excellent condition.  The period, 20 1/2" x 24 1/2"  wood frame shows no damage, but some of its painted finish is worn and discolored.  It is in need of a cleaning,  as it appears something liquid  may have run down the surface on the left side,  but there is no flaking or paint loss.  It  displays well as it is, though, and is ready to hang.  Buyer to pay Fedex ground  post & ins. (30.00) Offered with a realistic buy-it-now, or please make a reasonable offer.  Three-day inspection/return on all items I offer, if not as described.  Combined postage on multiple purchases.  Please see my other auctions for some early hatpins  from a 60+ year collection, all offered with no hidden reserve.
