This charismatic baluster shaped soft paste porcelain drug jar was made by the Chantilly manufactory of Chantilly in Oise, France c. 1750. It is hand painted in the Japanese Kakiemon palette.  It features a bower-like wreath and ribbon that were meant to surround the name of the drug this vessel was meant to contain (possibly to be written crayon).  The reverse side features a Kakiemon inspired floral sprig including a chrysanthemum.  I don't believe the piece ever had a lid.  The foot of the jar has fritting along its edge otherwise the piece is in great shape.  It is 4" tall and is 3.5" in diameter at the widest point.  This piece is from the collection of the late Betty Balcom and was appraised by porcelain expert Tish Roberts c. 2002.
