 Euro 2020 is the 16th edition

 of the European Championship, a tournament held

 every four years among the national teams that are

 part of UEFA. It was supposed to take place from

 June 12 to July 12, 2020, but due to the COVID-19

 pandemic, it took place a year later, from June 11 to

 July 11, 2021. At the same time, like the Summer

 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the tournament retained

 its original name with the indication of 2020. This is

 the first European Football Championship to be

 postponed due to emergency circumstances. On 23

 April 2021, UEFA decided that spectators would be

 allowed to play in the tournament, however most

 matches, including the semi-finals and the final,

 were subject to a maximum capacity of 50%.

In the tournament, as in Euro 2016, there were 24

 teams. Italy won the championship after beating

 England on penalties in the final.

This is the first European Championship held not on

 the territory of one or two bordering countries, but

 on 11 stadiums in 11 cities of 10 states (11 UEFA

 national associations).
