Joan of Arc, known as "the Maid of Arc", was born around 1412 in Domrémy, a village in the Duchy of Bar (now in the Vosges department of Lorraine), and died at the stake on May 30, 1431 in Rouen, capital of the Duchy of Normandy. Jeanne was beatified by Pope Pius X on April 18, 1909, then she was canonized by Pope Benedict XV on May 16, 1920.
