A British 1899 Pattern Cavalry Trooper's Sword by Wilkinson from the Boer War in South Africa. The letters "WIL...DON" can still be made out at the base of the blade for "WILKINSON LONDON", and it is dated "12'01" which indicates that it was manufactured in December, 1901. The back of the grip is stamped "THAW  2836" (Or possibly "2636"). The 1899 Pattern is not particularly common as they were only in official use for around 10 years, before the introduction of the 1908 Pattern Cavalry Trooper's Sword.

The blade, guard, and scabbard on this example were chromed at some point. This was possibly for use in an official capacity of some kind, as the guard was marked "KOMDT." (Afrikaans abbreviation for "Commandant") subsequent to being chromed.

The guard has been somewhat battered, but the assembly is otherwise solid and secure. Most importantly, although the grip scales on these swords have often perished, cracked, or shrunk away from the tang on these swords, this has not happened in this instance. There is only some heavy scuffing on the thumb side of the grip.
