GEORG JENSEN WEATHER STATION Design by Andreas Mikkelsen ALL FOUR PIECES 1980s

It is very rare to find one of these Georg Jensen weather stations complete and in such good condition.

I believe, like the Georg Jensen/Andreas Mikkelsen desk clock I have for sale elsewhere on eBay, this weather station was old floor stock that didn't sell 40 years ago and was sitting in a storeroom.

All four function perfectly well  and I have put a new battery in the clock.

Since he began his studio in 1904, Georg Jensen was all about wearable art and functionality.  His silver jewellery was affordable and popular.

There have been over 100 designers over the years under the GJ hallmark and all have added to that reputation and incredible breadth of designs. This Weather Station fits right into the Georg Jensen philosophy.  Functional, practical and a brilliant aesthetic.

In 1955, Andreas Mikkelsen started working as a salesman for Georg Jensen and in 1963 he was promoted to sales manager. He quickly progressed at the silversmithy and in 1970 established his own design company where he designed his own jewellery for eight years before returning to Georg Jensen in 1978. When Georg Jensen merged with Holmegaard Glassworks in 1983, Mikkelsen became the company's artistic director.  This weather station was among his first designs in that role.
