Tornado IDS/GR1/GR4 Trainer Variant Rear Cockpit conversion set.

The resin sets are currently for Italeri 1/32 and Revell 1/32, 1/48 and 1/72 kits. Sets for Italeri 1/48 and Hasegawa 1/72 are planned.

Uniquely modelled by a former Tornado pilot to provide an accurate representation of the Tornado Trainer Variant rear cockpit as used by the RAF, GAF, IAF and RSAF. The scaling is as close to real life as much as possible, but where required, certain parts are enhanced for clarity at small scale.

Included in the set are options for the IDS and GR1 (which are essentially the same in the rear cockpit), earlier GR4 with NVG lighting and later GR4 with TARDIS (including cover) and replacement TV TAB. The set comprises:

IDS/GR1 top unit with original CRPMD and TV TAB
GR4 top unit as above with NVG lighting hoods
GR4 top unit with TARDIS and replacement TV TAB
TARDIS cover (except 1/72 set)
Main Instrument Panel
Control stick (two in 1/72 set as they are very small)
Rudder pedals unit (Italeri only as the Revell kits have existing rudder pedals)
Left side panel
IDS/GR1 right side panel
GR4 right side panel with NVG controls and stowage box

Trainer Variant rear cockpits have/had various states of modification with some panels in different places. This set is based on a GR4, circa 2003.
The set is modelled with throttles at idle, wingsweep lever at 25deg and flaps set at mid - if you want anything different, just ask.

ITALERI 1/32 NOTES
The only modification to the existing kit is to sand down the instrument panels on rear cockpit side panels to create a smooth surface. The set parts are designed to replace the original kit parts using existing attachment points.
For fitting, it is recommended that the side panels are glued in place first, followed by the main instrument panel with the control stick already attached. Please note that the bottom of the main instrument panel sides are designed to fit over the side panels and glued to the kit at the existing guide parts. The rudder pedal unit is designed to fit over the existing guide rails for the navigators/WSOs controller console.

REVELL 1/32 and 1/72 NOTES
The only modification to the existing kit is to sand down the instrument panels on rear cockpit side panels to create a smooth surface (including the existing stowage box). The set parts are designed to replace the original kit parts using existing attachment points.
For fitting, it is recommended that the main instrument panel is glued in place first, followed by the side panels.

REVELL 1/48 NOTES
A bit more modification to the existing kit is required due to the kit design. The existing two front top unit base halves need to be sawn/cut off in line with the cockpit rail. The new instrument panel is designed to fit into the remaining mould and act as a base for the trainer top unit. The front pipework behind the pilots seat is a bit squashed, but there is not much that can be done about that. The CRPMD/TARDIS and TV TABs protrude too far back into the rear cockpit in relation to the main instrument panel, which is the same with the kit parts - from outside, and in relation to the canopy arch, it is correct.
For fitting, it is recommended that the main instrument panel is glued in place first, followed by the side panels. Please ignore the blu-tack fixing the bottom of the control stick for the photos.

Bear in mind the pieces are just placed without gluing in the photos - some of the photos have parts primed or painted to show the detail more clearly.

Due to the size and nature of these resin pieces, they are delicate. Please bear this in mind when purchasing and be careful with them - they are easily lost!

Each set is produced, prepared and quality checked before listing, so there will be times when they are not available - if this is the case, it will show as ‘Out of Stock’.
