An excellent medal group, photos and ephemera to a Victorian gunner who served with the 2/14th Field Regiment during some of the heaviest fighting of the New Guinea campaign in World War Two.

1939-49 Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, War Medal and Australian Service Medal all correctly impressed to VX63107 L.J. BROOKS

Bombardier Louis John Brooks was born in the Melbourne suburb of Northcote and enlisted with the Second AIF in September 1941.

Brooks was deployed to Darwin and other parts of Australia with the 2/14th before embarking in 1944 for New Guinea where the regiment fought on the Huon Peninsula, at Madang and Alexishafen and on New Britain.

The medals are in immaculate condition, unmounted on original ribbons.

The group comes with Brooks' original Returned from Active Service Badge (numbered 288400), his parchment certificate of discharge and service book, a small framed colour portrait photograph, various other original and copy war service photographs, his medal issue slip and other paperwork contained in a old leather document wallet.

Research material includes a copy of Brooks' complete service file.
