FLAUBERT, Gustave (1821-1880)

Autograph letter [to Louise Colet], dated “Tuesday morning” (on the night of October 19 to 20, 1846).

1 page in-8 (204 x 134 mm), in brown ink on paper. Remains of adhesive on the outer margin. Dated by another hand “October 19, 1846”.

Beautiful autograph letter from Flaubert, full of amorous despair.

What's the matter ? Are you sick ? Has one of my letters [been] misplaced or one of yours? Since Thursday morning not a word. Please answer me, answer me immediately.

I have terrible worries, I am prey to a thousand terrible suspicions. I don't know what to imagine or what to say. I can't even write to you, because I don't know what to say, except that I love you, that I adore you, that I kiss you.

For four long days I have been burning with impatience and anxiety. Oh ! more of that, please!

Farewell, farewell, a thousand tender kisses. My heart beats as if something bad had happened to you.

Correspondence, I, 1926, n°160.

A fine autograph letter from Flaubert to his lover Louise Colet.
