BELLOW, Saul. Dangling Man. London: John Lehmann. 1946. 8vo. First British edition of Bellow’s excellent first published novel. In the striking dust jacket by Robert Medley. A frustrating copy, the yellow cloth bright and only marginally bumped to corners. The binding tight and slightly cocked, and internally without inscriptions or stamps, just a faint embossed ‘B844’ to front endpaper. The major issue being the lack of title page; the book opens on the ffep, half-title, dedication page, the second half-title, then into the text. Otherwise about fine. The dust jacket not price-clipped, the spine darkened with some mostly discreet closed tears to joints, mild bumps and tiny chips to several corners, but presentable in Mylar. A nice enough copy of a scarce title, priced reflective of the lacking title page.
