Sterling Silver Spirit Kettle - Antique Victorian (1850)

Description

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver spirit kettle has a bulbous shaped form.

The upper, bulbous portion of the kettle is embellished with exceptional bright cut engraved scrolling leaf decoration incorporating floral designs and trellis patterns; the lower portion is plain.

The decoration to this Victorian silver kettle incorporates a large scroll bordered cartouche to either side, each ornamented with the contemporary bright cut engraved coat of arms surmounted with the crest of a falcon belled, all above the motto "Moveo et proficio" - I move and I progress*.

This antique silver kettle is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover encircled with further bright cut engraved opposing scrolling leaf decoration with a leaf motif to either side.

The cover is surmounted with the exceptional and original sterling silver finial encircled with further scrolling designs and terminating with a ball motif.

This fine example of antique teaware is fitted with an impressive hallmarked sterling silver scrolling handle ornamented with impressive cast S scroll, leaf decorated terminals accented with large scrolling sockets in junction with the body.

The magnificent kettle detaches from the original hallmarked cast sterling silver stand, supported by three impressive scrolling legs accented with further applied leaf ornamentation.

The upper portion of the stand is encircled with impressive pierced simplified leaf motifs.

The stand incorporates a plain scrolling frame which retains the original hallmarked detachable spirit burner.

The spirit kettle stand is fitted with the original chains and security pegs.

* This motto combined with the falcon crest can be associated with the family name Knox.

Condition

This antique Victorian silver spirit kettle is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.

The cast and applied decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is all very crisp.

The interior of the kettle has been professionally cleaned and is ready for use.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the kettle and handle, in addition to part hallmarks to the stand and spirit burner are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this fine example of Victorian teaware.
