Description: Jason Lee Wilson recorded this fine album in Berlin, Germany in the famous Lightning Recorders studio. He is backed up by europes most authentic rockabilly band the Roundup Boys. The mix of modern country and authentic rockabilly plus outstanding songwriting and singing capabillities makes this album different. By the way, Jason is the grandcousin of Marvin Rainwater. This rings a bell ? If not listen to this great CD ! Scots-Irish, German, Swiss, Italian and Cherokee, no one is more American in spirit, word, or pedigree. Listening to his endless compositions, it is plain to see Jason Lee Wilson, born and raised in the hill country of southeast Tennessee, has stayed true to his roots. He has penned endless songs romanticizing the history and tradition of his own life, lives of his contemporaries and those long since past. In 1998, He formed the Cumberland Runners, a high energy rockabilly act that was to be the soundtrack for a growing car culture following in the Middle and East Tennessee, North Georgia, and North Alabama area. Jason Lee can still be found fronting the band at large events all over the South. In 2004, the Cumberland Runners released an album of 14 tracks all of which were Wilson originals, with the exception of the Robert Mitchum tune, 'Ballad of Thunder Road'. He has such a diverse range of vocal style and dynamics that it has been likened to Dwight Yoakam, Johnny Cash, Ricky Nelson, Gordon Lightfoot and Jim Morrison to name a few. One thing remains the same. He is unmistakeably a true balladeer from the Southern Highlands of North America who sings what he knows. Perhaps, It was that which caught the attention of a Rhythm Bomb Records executive. In 2007, backed in the studio by master musicians and labelmates, the Round Up Boys, Jason Lee Wilson recorded a new album for the label. Entitled 'High Country', it was released in May of the same year and has risen in popularity both online and in broadband. 'Henry the Hammer' found on the album was written about a longtime friend, a caller on a rail gang, who worked for the NC&St.L railroad for several decades. 'Wauhatchie-(Wah Yah Tsi)' is about the North Georgia Cherokee Chief Wauhatchie who served in the War of 1812 and in the Creek Wars of 1813 and 1814 under Captain John Brown, Colonel Gideon Morgan, and Major General Andrew Jackson. Twenty years later, his friend and then President Andrew Jackson spearheaded the movement which culminated in the 'Trail of Tears' and the deaths of 8 thousand Cherokee people. Born near Cherokee settlement of Tsistetsi'yi in Bradley Co., TN, Jason Lee Wilson cannot ignore the history ingrained in his home or his heart. 'Minin' Coal' a song about working class life in West Virginia is still relevant today and that is what continues to make Wilson's songwriting abilities extraordinary and 'High Country' a wonderful collection of works.
