This is a rare oversized first day of issue cover of Scott # 904, Kentucky Statehood Sesquicentennial stamp, issued in 1942 . The three-cent stamp features a design of Daniel Boone and a frontiersman in a beautiful shade of purple. The cancellation type is First Day of Issue, from Frankfort KY. The cachet features Kentucky’s state motto, “United We Stand, Divided We Fall” and an illustration of what presumably(?) is Daniel Boone and statesman Patrick Henry.

The cover was an official product of the commonwealth of Kentucky sesquicentennial commission, headquartered at 159 Barr Street in Lexington. The envelope was mailed to the night city editor of a Louisville newspaper, the Courier-Journal.

The reverse side of the envelope is striped bold red white and blue, unsealed with gum intact.

It is a perfect choice for FDC - FDOI collectors who are looking to expand their collection.
