Up for your consideration is a Vintage 1970 framed and matted Art print of Brass Rubbings from the 1460 Memorial Plate of the Four Evangelists at Nievilles Abbey, Belgium.

DESCRIPTION:
This special collection of Brass Rubbings are taken from the famous memorial plate to Marguerite de Scornay, who was Abbess of Nivelles in Belgium from 1443 - 1460

*  Brass rubbings are done by stretching linen rag paper over the deeply etched monumental brass that was part of the memorial. Then, a heelball (a very hard wax) is rubbed vigorously over the paper surface to get an exact copy of the brass plate.

*  This cameo reproduced with a metallic gold wax crayon on a black rag paper illustrates the four symbols of the Evangelists

St. Matthew the winged man, top right.

St. Mark the lion, bottom right.

St. Luke the ox, bottom left.

St. John the eagle, top left.

*  Print is framed in a black wood frame
*  Reverse side is presented with brown backing paper, a typed note of explanation and a hanging wire
