Carte de Visite half length photograph of a young lady.

She wears a tiara, necklace and an intricate dress and has lovely platted hair. She is three quarters facing and looks towards the camera. On the back is written in pencil: Empress of Austria. Our research indicates she is Elisabeth, Empress of Austria. She was apparently born as Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie.

Taken and / or published by Emil Rabending, Wien (Vienna).

Possibly dates to circa 1860s.

Card measures about 10.5 cm x 6 cm.

A carte de visite usually consists of a small photograph, as is the case here, that is affixed to a backing card. It was a very popular format in the mid to late 19th century.

Condition: image has faded somewhat but still retains reasonably good detail although lighter parts of the dress and  the shoulders lack detail; various scuffs, scratches, spotting and other blemishes to the image; blemish to right shoulder (as seen from the viewer's point of view); some wear to edges and corners. Condition is subjective so please study the photographs carefully to make your own judgement.

The colours in the photographs will not be completely accurate due to variables in the photos or scans we use and individual computer settings.
