It seems to me, to be part of the nursery rhyme Hey, Diddle Diddle, but in fact, it doesn't when you do read the words below.
The whole rod and top is brass with a long forged steel end welded on. Cute as well as useful.

This measures only 18" which is shorter than what we are used to in the US. Most British fireplaces were quite small. Works very well it's just right.

This is not big or heavy of a poker it weighs only 8.26 ounces.
This fits in  priority tube box so it will mail priority one pound.
Normal use made this smooth the tip is plenty big for poking.
