Fair condition.  Some scuffing to front and rear boards.  Tips are bumped.  Some chipping and scuffing on spines of both volumes.  Gilt is mostly intact and text is still legible.  Some wear to tail of volume 2.  Red speckling on fore edges.  Hinges are beginning to crack.  Minor toning to endpapers.  Frontispiece of Queen Marie-Antoinette.  Instances of age-staining and finger-staining throughout text blocks.  Binding intact.  Please see photos.

Louise-Elisabeth de Croy (11 June 1749 - 15 May 1832) was a French noblewoman and courtier, as the Marquise of Tourzel.  She was the Governess of the Children of France from 1789 until 1792.  Decades after the French Revolution, Louise-Elisabeth published her memoirs, which presented a unique perspective on the royal family during the French Revolution.  She later acquired the title of duchess.
