This is a vintage, delicately decorated china shaving scuttle. The full size version would have been used to hold soap, water, and a shaving brush. This smaller version can be used for a teabag holder, or on a dressing table to hold cotton or hair pins. In great condition, with no chips, cracks, or damage of any kind.

Hammersley was a respected china manufacturer among collectors, with a history of producing high quality, ornately decorated bone china. The company was founded in 1862 and underwent several name changes through its existence. In 1966, Carborundum Ltd. purchased Hammersley and merged with Royal Worcester Spode Ltd. in 1976. In 1982, Hammersley production ceased when the company was taken over by Palissy Pottery Ltd.
