Fair condition.  Front board is completely detached from binding.  Wear to front and rear boards.  Tips are bumped with exposed board and edges are scuffed.  Leather on spine has almost completely chipped off; illegible and very little gilt dentelles remaining.  Binding exposed at headcap.  Rear joint is cracked.  Marbling on pastedowns and flyleafs as well as fore edges.  Provenance on front endpaper.  Frontispiece opposite title page.  Title page in black and red: red is still crisp.  Marginalia on all-black title page.  Toning, age-staining, and foxing throughout textblock.  Text is faded on some pages, but still legible.  Please see photos.

Anne Le Fevre Dacier (1647 - 17 August 1720), better known during her lifetime as Madame Dacier, was a French scholar, translator, commentator, and editor of the classics, including the Illiad and the Odyssey.  She sought to champion ancient literature and used her great capabilities in Latin and Greek for this purpose as well as for her own financial support, producing a series of editions and translations from which she earned her living.
