Overall good, with minor rubbing and wear to boards and spine. Some loss to heads and heels of spine. Cracking to rear hinge of Volume I; all others remain in good condition. Text blocks remain bound well. Profusely illustrated throughout with black-and-white sketches, along with a detached map of Norway and Sweden at the back of Volume I. Small holes and tears around some folds of map. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing.

A scarce set on Northern Scandinavia by Paul du Chaillu (c. 1831-1903), a French-American explorer and zoologist who is best remembered for being the first Westerner to confirm the existence of gorillas and the Pygmy people.
