This finely knotted Afghan, Central Asian or Turkmen rug probably dated to c. 1965.  It is in deep red and black tones.  The side edges are completed with flat weaving in orange and black.  The top and bottom are overcast in charcoal colored wool yarn.  The piece is 31" x 25".  and is somewhat trapezoidal in shape.  It doesn't sit perfectly flat on the floor but I think it would flatten if left in place for a while.  This is a very high quality tightly woven carpet with full original pile.
