The sprawling collection has seen coins in a range of finishes featuring the author and illustrator’s most beloved characters, including several starring her most famous creation: Peter Rabbit. The mischievous young rabbit first featured in The Tale of Peter Rabbit, published in 1901, one of picture books written by Potter. In this 2019 coin he’s seen sneaking under a garden gate, in search of lettuces. He’ll come to regret this after being chased by the garden’s owner, Mr McGregor.
The reverse for this highly collectible 50p is the work of Royal Mint designer Emma Noble and based on original illustrations. Noble has worked on a wide range of Beatrix Potter coin, starting with the first Fifty Pence pieces in this sought after collection, launched in 2016. Her designs are paired with Jody Clark’s portrait of Her Majesty the Queen which appears on the obverse or heads side of this 50p.
