8 1/2"H x 7 1/2"W x 1 1/4"D. Handmade leather hardcover vintage photo album from the early to mid-20th century featuring black and white matte images of various sailboats and other nautical/coastal subjects. The first page is inscribed with a note that reads: 'Merry Christmas to Jack, From Fred, 1932.' Among the 17 pages containing photographs, one features a particularly interesting shot of the U.S.S. S-49 (SS 160) Submarine floating near the surface of the water—a vessel commissioned in 1922 and floundered in the Patuxent River in 1942 after a 20-year tenure. In total, this collection includes 20 photographs, some of which share a page, and incorporates two blank pages at the end of the album. All the pages are currently detached within the cover but could be easily reassembled using the existing three-hole punches in both the pages and the binding. Some surface imperfections throughout the photographs include discoloration and minor smudges. Other wear throughout the album/cover includes cracking in the spine, crazing leather, fraying, and small tears in the pages.
