Porcelain set "Amazing Fishes" with gilding - the most famous in the former USSR, under the simple name "Fishes"
DESCRIPTION:
Many older Ukrainians remember this unusual "miracle" in the form of a set of ceramic fish in their grandmother's sideboard. And yet, the "Fish" were hardly used, and kept them as a decoration for their sideboard, periodically wiping them from dust. Moreover, many citizens did not even realize how to use this utensil properly. The history of the service begins in the distant 1955, when the Georgian artist-ceramist Baramidze A. B. at the Riga factory created a decanter in the form of a fish, which had the shape of a karaf (a vessel for settling wine after opening a bottle or a barrel). Modeler Anatoly Travnikov made them. Moreover, in the painting of the first set there were no red and blue colors, only white and gold. Then the Fish began a real tour around the world: in 1958 they visited exhibitions in Japan (Tokyo) and Poland (Poznan), and in 1959 - in the United States (Chicago), Turkey (Izmir), Syria (Damascus), Finland (Helsinki), France (Marseille), Czechoslovakia (Brno), Greece (Thessaloniki), Austria (Vienna), Yugoslavia (Zagreb), and gained unexpected popularity.
Since 1960, "Fish" began serial production at the Riga porcelain factory (Latvia), in 1961 they are a few modified (larger capacity and a different coloring) began to be produced in Tbilisi (Georgia). In 1962, "Fish" began to produce also in Ukraine, at the Polonsk Porcelain Factory (Khmelnytsky region) and at the Gorodnytsky porcelain factory of artistic ceramics (Zhytomyr region). At the same time, its canonical and iconic coloring acquired "Fish" from Ukrainian manufacturers in two variants - in red-and-white colors or blue-and-white colors.
