Fair condition.  Wear to front and rear boards.  Tips are bumped with exposed boards.  Chipping and cracking to spine, but still legible.  Fore edge appears to have been painted red, but is significantly faded.  Provenance in ink on flyleaf.  Hinges appear to have been repaired/reinforced with blue tape.  Marginalia in pencil throughout textblock.  Toning and minor instances of age-staining throughout textblock.  Includes fold-out map opposite title page.  Endpapers of this volume have also been used to print advertisements for other publications available from Sheldon and Company.  Please see photos.

Asahel C. Kendrick (January 12, 1809 - October 21, 1895) was a Hellenist, distinguished mainly as a teacher of Greek.  He taught for 60 years and was one of the first American professors to visit Greece.  Among his other interests were New Testament scholarship, serving on the Committee on New Testament Revision, and the English and American poets.  Kendrick also wrote for The Baptist Quarterly Review and published many of his speeches.
