Inhabitants tools of New Zealand, voyage Captain Cook 1778

Description: Antique engraving of Inhabitants tools of New Zealand,
Two chisels, an adze, a bread-fruit beater, the nasal flute, a thatching needle and an instrument for beating cloth.

It was done by Syndey Parkinson in 1770. Parkinson was a Scottish botanist and natural history artist employed by Joseph Banks on Captain James Cook's first Endeavor voyage to the Pacific from 1768-1771. The drawing was then engraved in John Hawkesworth's Voyages (an account of the journeys by Captain Cook, Vice Admiral John Byron, and Joseph Banks published on behalf of the Admirality in 1773).

This is an original engraving from the time as listed, not a later 1800 edition.
