This Bog Yew is off the Highest Quality, It has been well Seasoned cut to the appropriate sizes, Reddish in Colour, Only the densest wood has been selected, The Bog Yew that I work with was unearthed in County Roscommon Ireland, An area not far from Rathcroghan the Ancient seat of Queen medb in Connaught.   Bog Yew Wood is a rare and fascinating material, preserved in the unique conditions of the peat bogs for thousands of years. Trees that fell into the bogs and lakes of Ireland enjoyed protection from decay due to the anaerobic condition of this environment, and over the centuries went through a chemical process staining the wood to the Blackish colour of today. The range of uses Bog Yew has is a tribute to its many qualities, from Beautiful sculpture, to Jewellery and furniture the list is endless. It is often used for providing records through tree ring dating and artefacts that have been recovered from bogs can be important in the archaeological world as they become preserved as bog wood. The Yew itself dates from between 3000 to 8000 years old.
