About the Artist:  Maynard Brown (1851 - 1939) was active/lived in United Kingdom.  Maynard Brown is known for Painting.  Contributing to numerous periodicals, he became a staff member of The Illustrated London News, and later of The Graphic; his Social Realist images for the latter, including those of mining, were much admired by Vincent Van Gogh. Increasingly, he also illustrated books, especially popular adventure stories by such authors as George Manville Fenn and George Alfred Henty.
Charles Roberts was a wood-engraver, who worked for the 'Illustrated London News' (1870), 'The Graphic' (1873-1898), and the 'Magazine of Art' (1878-81). Roberts often signs work 'C R' or 'C Roberts'.
