A huge interpretation of Bach that stands out in the history of performance art.
■Among Glenn Gould's recordings, the most popular Bach recordings are included on 24 SACD hybrid discs.
■Gould's recording career centered on works by Bach, from his monumental Columbia debut in 1955, the Goldberg Variations, to his re-recording of the Goldberg Variations in 1981. It was placed in
Gould himself was conscious of the comprehensive recording of Bach's works, and as a result, the major keyboard solos were recorded, with clarity of structure, vividness of complex polyphony, and submerged vocals, all of which reflect the instruments and era. A transcendent interpretation of Bach has been engraved.
■This is the latest edition of the ``Bach Complete Works,'' which has become a standard since it was first released in Japan in 1974, and includes Bach recordings from Columbia to Sony Classical that were released during Gould's lifetime.
In addition, it includes live recordings and other sound sources released after his death.
Half of the 24 hybrid discs are the world's first SACD hybrid.
■Two bonus discs include two interviews with Gould and a talk about Bach in German (Japanese translation included in the booklet, "Concert Dropout" is a new translation by Junichi Miyazawa)
