Limited edition, in French and English. New York: The Black Sun Press, 1943
50 pages. 7.5 x 10 inches
A copy of Misfortunes of the Immortals, from The Black Sun Press edition of 1943. Profusely illustrated with reproductions of Max Ernst's surrealist collages, accompanied by Paul Éluard's appropriately surrealist poems. This edition includes three new drawings on pink paper that were not included in the French language edition of 1920. Here the French text is accompanied by English translations by Hugh Chisholm.
Having been protected by the scarce original pink dust jacket, the decorated binding is mostly clean and bright.
One of 500 copies printed on standard paper, from an edition limited to 610 copies. Edition designed and published by Caresse Crosby. Printed at the Gemor Press in New York City, March 1943.
