"HIRSHEL", THE WINERY SOMMELIER

Since my other listing offers the entire vignette, this listing, as well as the other four listings are going to be for the individual Cellar Elves.

Elf Hirshel has chosen a 1970 Chateau Palmer, the last bottle from two cases purchased through the Chicago Wine Company in the late 1970s.  It has been cellared all of its life & has a mid-shoulder fill level.  Hirshel won't let it go, so you will have to buy Elf Hirshel to get the Palmer!

APPRECIATING THE SPIRIT:

According to lore, most cellar elves trace their heritage back to Central Europe & the coast of France.  Wine has always been quite prevalent in these areas.  The cellar elves just seem to find well-stocked cellars wherever they are.  They love to dust, rotate, taste, clean, organize, taste, & in general, care for the cellar where they have taken up residence.  They are a truly distinguished group of elves, as distinguished elves go, & their presence is warm insurance for the proper care & aging of fine wines.

Cellar Elves are known to sneak sips of unattended or abandoned wine glasses & have a way of separating the sediment of the remaining dregs of even the oldest bottles of fine wine.  When a bottle is not completely consumed, it is a good bet that the Cellar Elves will be sleeping in the next day.

Their presence in a cellar is also a good indication that that cellar is a particularly nice cellar or cellaret.  The late and wonderful Billy Tobin was a great friend to a group of Cellar Elves.  They told him that any cellar with less than 2,000 bottles was to be considered a “cellaret”.  However, the elves are quick to add that even a well-stocked cellaret can be a fun place to reside for a year or two.


Over the years, quite a few of these delightful characters have provided us with much joy; it truly has been a delight for them to find that our “mini-cellaret” met their standards for them to spend some time as part of our general home decor.

CONDITION

Many of my items are artisanal, vintage or fairly aged; accordingly, there may be some issues with individual pieces that are associated with the passage of time or the individuality of the artisanal process.

I have looked each of them over to detect any major flaws. Any serious damage, fading or discoloration that I can perceive will be disclosed; however small flaws (i.e. imperfections in the glaze/paint, a slipped stitch, etc.) may be missed.

ALL OF MY COLLECTIONS HAVE BEEN STORED IN A TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED ENVIRONMENT IN OUR SMOKE-FREE, PET-FRIENDLY HOME.
