Vitamin C is an essential micronutrient for human! It is a potent antioxidant and a cofactor for a family of biosynthetic and gene regulatory enzymes. Furthermore, supplementation with vitamin C appears to be able to both prevent and treat respiratory and systemic infections. Vitamin C contributes to immune defense by supporting various cellular functions of both the innate and adaptive immune system. Furthermore, Vitamin C supports epithelial cell barrier function against pathogens and promotes the oxidant scavenging activity of the skin, thereby potentially protecting against environmental oxidative stress (Carr & Maggini 2017).

Frequently asked questions

What does Vitamin C do?

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin, meaning that your body doesn't store it. You have to get what you need from food, including citrus fruits, broccoli, tomatoes or supplements.

You need vitamin C for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. It helps the body make collagen, an important protein used to make skin, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels. Vitamin C is needed for healing wounds, and for repairing and maintaining bones and teeth. It also helps the body absorb iron from nonheme sources.

Vitamin C is an antioxidant, along with vitamin E, beta-carotene, and many other plant-based nutrients. Antioxidants block some of the damage caused by free radicals, substances that damage DNA. The build up of free radicals over time may contribute to the aging process and the development of health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and arthritis.

Is Vitamin C safe?

Yes, Vitamin C is generally well tolerated, including across several clinical trials with up to 10 grams ingested per day (Hoppe et al. 2021). However, we do not recommend consuming more than 1 gram per day unless otherwise instructed by a medical professional.

Excessive consumption can lead to gastric discomfort including nausea, cramping, bloating, vomiting and diarrhea. Other symptoms of excessive consumption can also include Heartburn. If you experience any of these symptoms immedietly stop use of this supplement and consult a medical professional.

How do I use it?

We recommend consuming  1g of Vitamin C daily. This can be taken in a single dose before bed or spread across the afternoon. If gastric discomfort occurs, consume with food.

Yes, this product is great for women as well!

Is there an advantage to taking liposomal, esterified, time-release, or mineral forms of ascorbic acid compared to taking plain ascorbic acid? What about pH buffered Vitamin C?

There has been no proven benefit to taking any other 'fancy' form of vitamin C over good old plain ascorbic acid! Similar to creatine, the most simple answer is just as effective whilst saving your wallet.

Many companies claim their product has a greater bioavailability, but there is little scientific evidence to support this.
