Who we are:

Meeting of the Mines is led by an experienced team of Professional Gold Miners. We are practitioners, not theorists.

Simply put: We mine gold for a living!

We are out in the field/tunnels gaining knowledge through practical Gold Mining principles/applications.

We have several patented and unpatented gold mines, hardrock and placer. One operational Gold Mine and another not far behind, which is currently being looked at by a Canadian based Gold Mining Company for a fall lease date.

Upon winning an auction you shall have access to some of these areas to learn, prospect, and maybe even partake in a blast!

More detailed information below, PLEASE scroll down to see camping, claim info, mining district, recreation, directions, and contact info. below...

Gold was found along the banks of the East Fork Carson River in 1860 and the goldrush was on. Numerous placer and Hardrock operations began to spring up along the upper reaches of the East Fork Carson River; bringing in a total of approx. 5 million in Gold and Silver.

So, whether you're a part-time prospector, full time gold miner, or dedicated metal detectorist, there has never been a better time to get involved in the modern-day Gold Rush! Not only is gold mining a hobby and or a full-time job that can pay you back, it's an activity the entire family can enjoy together in the great outdoors.

Perhaps one of the best benefits of gold prospecting, gold mining, and or metal detecting is that with the price of gold today, you don't have to find much to completely pay for your claim and equipment-- and the rest is pure profit!

With GOLD prices starting to move steadily upward, there is no better time to own a gold claim!
Mining claims are mineral rights to Government land and the rights to extract precious metals. They are considered real property and can be bought, sold, leased, willed, transferred and etc., with that being said they have tremendous resale value.

Silver Mountain Mining District, Alpine County, California

Location, History, Geology, Ore Deposits, Mines
Location and History: Silver Mountain is in south-central Alpine County about 10 miles south of Markleeville. Gold and silver were discovered here around 1860, and a rush began soon afterward. Kongsburg, later known as Silver Mountain City, was established by Scandinavian miners in 1862. The town grew rapidly and had a population of nearly 3000 in the following year. It was the first seat of government in Alpine County.

Geology and Ore Deposits: The gold- and silver-bearing deposits occur chiefly in altered volcanic rocks. The deposits consist of veins of silicified bre.ccia containing pyrite, chalcopyrite, and other sulfides. Some deposits contain a series of parallel veins. The values usually are erratically distributed, although a few high-grade pockets were found in the early days. A few quartz veins are found in granitic rocks in the western part of the district.

Mines: Exchequer, Garfield, Isabella, J.X.L., Lady Franklin, Pennsylvania, Raymond Meadows.

Ghost town?
Here's an excerpt about the historic boom town from Up and Down California in 1860-1864; The Journal of William H. Brewer :

"Silver Mountain (town) is a good illustration of a new mining town. We arrive by trail, for the wagon road is left many miles back. As we descend the canyon from the summit, suddenly a bright new town bursts into view...

Founded by Scandinavian miners as Kongsberg in 1858. Silver City was the Alpine County seat from 1864 to 1875.In 1878 news of a silver strike in Bodie emptied the town of most residents. Silver City turned into a ghost town as businesses closed. Buildings like the old log jail were relocated to the new county seat in Markleeville."
