What is it?

Amygdaloidal and Vesicular Basalt are metamorphic volcanic stones. When lava cooled, gas pockets were trapped inside the magma producing these vesicles as the stone cooled. These vesicles can greatly vary in size and contain mineral pockets. Some are agates, made when water containing quartz builds layers inside over a process that can take millions of years. This is because these stones are porous and many minerals such as calcite, epidote, and quartz deposit themselves in these cavities. The Mineralization of these hollow chambers gives these stones their unique and beautiful color patterns.

You will receive a mixed variety of Lava rocks that are perfect for Aquariums and gardens or just for home décor!

Where does it come from?

These stones were left behind from volcanic activity and pushed by the massive glaciers that carved our Great Lakes into the Earth. Every type of stone is perfectly tumbled by the powerful waves of the lake and we collect them in this natural state. Our range stretches from our Bay Mills Community all along the shores to Grand Marais. We ethically source our stones and make sure not to leave traces of human activity behind/

Discovery Story

We travel from the private beaches of the Bay Mills Indian Community all the way to the National Beaches of Gumshoe Park and Grand Marais. The beaches are ever changing, with each new season the waves shift the shoreline so there are always new stones to be discovered. Our National Parks are well maintained and safe to explore so it’s always a nice time when we are out collecting orders.
