The tugboat "Irene" was built by the American Tugboat Company in 1902 in Tacoma Washington.
It was the "logo boat" for the 1991 Olympia Harbor Days Tugboat Races and participated.
Then owned by Jeff Mager and Jean Hoyt of Seattle and Skipper was David Buff.
Original owner was Henry "Harry" Ramwell (1862-1935).
A prominent man in the development of the Everett Washington Port and several other Everett businesses.
Ramwell and his partner David Clough in 1902 purchased the Towel-Thurston Towing Co. and founded the American Tugboat Co.
They expanded to 22 boats.
In 1903 Formed the "American Pile Driving Co." which was later sold, moved to Tacoma, renamed and is still in business today.
In 1903 Formed "Everett Sand and Gravel".
They built 2 large docks in Everett.
In 1907 City Dock (Pier 2)
In 1908 Oriental Dock (Pier 3)
In 1915 Founded "American Packing Co" and "American Ice and Cold Storage"
Also "American Distributing Co." for Petroleum Products. which is still in business serving Snohomish County.
In 1911 Started Passenger Ferry Service.
In 1919 Founded "Central Ferry Co." that included cars on the ferrys.
Ramwell was also the first Everett Harbor Master.
The "Irene" was also one of the first boats to have a woman crewmember, Mary Jamieson.
Mary along with her husband Floyd served on 7 boats from 1930-1950.
There are some interesting stories about the boat and the people on the internet if you care to search.
From the research I have done it seems that the "Irene was owned and operated by the American Tugboat Co. until sold then later resold to "Crowley" in 1973 then sold to private owners for recreational crusing and is still in operation today in the Seattle area.
