Sticker on the back of scales suggests they may have been bought by a sales and service representative of Globe Stimpson, Sillus D. Smiddy (1903-1992), in Williamsburg, KY. Walter Stimpson (1870-1942) held his first patent in 1894. Upon his death he held over 70 patents. Originally invented in 1847, the computing scale was cumbersome. Stimpson revolutionized the design the scale by creating a way for a merchant to weigh and price an item in one step. Stimpson was located in Louisville from 1919 until 1987.
