Royal Naval Division Machine Gun Battalion  WW1 GENUINE ANTIQUE

                           KK REF 1167

Genuine collectible cap Badge. Gilding metal with slider to rear. Very nice condition.

Measures 50mm width x 62mm height approx.

Formed as Infantry in 1914 from men of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Officers and NCOs of the division used naval ranks throughout. Eight battalions were raised named after famous Admirals. Two of the brigades 3rd Benbow and 4th Collingwood were disbanded after severe losses at Gallipoli with survivors becoming reinforcements for other RND battalions.

Originally khaki sailor caps were worn with the name of the battalion embroided on the tally bands. In May 1916 service dress caps were issued together with a metal badge. Collingwood and Benbow had been disbanded by then and so had no metal cap badge. They did however have metal shoulder titles which were sometimes used as a cap badge as well.

1st and 2nd Naval Brigades were as follows:Drake, Hawke, Benbow, Collingwood,Nelson Howe,Hood and Anson. There was also a Machine Gun Battalion and  Divisional Engineers.

Please see photos for details. The badge that you see will be the badge that you receive.
