A bit of history about Battledress Tunics: The RAF Blue Grey Battledress tunics were issued because it was found that the 4 pocket service dress was not efficient for Aircrew, and a design similar to 1937 Army battle dress was trialled in 1939 and then issued from December 1940 to all Flying Crew. Officers and men wore the same Blue grey battle dress, only other ranks wore the Albatross on each sleeve of the jacket. It was not until October 1943 that battledress became widespread issue to all including Officers, NCO's, ground personnel and Aircrew. The RAF Battledress tunic was different to the Army Battledress in that it had a lined stand up collar, with the pocket flaps pointed, as on the 4 pocket SD tunic.
