Antique copper engraved map of Canada, by Rigobert Bonne (1727-1794).

The map depicts the area from Lake Winnipeg to the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Labrador, including Lake Erie and most of Hudson Bay. Native populations such as the Iroquois and Algonquins, European forts and cities are noted. 

The map is drawn by Hérisson and engraved by André.



Rigobert Bonne (1727-1794) was one of the most important French cartographers of the 18th Century. In 1773, Bonne succeded to Jacques-Nicolas Bellin as Royal Cartographer to France in the office of the Hydrographer at the Depôt de la Marine. 

Bonne produced some of the most detailed and accurate maps of this period. Bonne died in 1794, his son Charles-Marie Rigobert Bonne continued to publish his work after his death.
