Paperback work measures 8 x 5.75". Custom teal cloth clam-shell with bright red leather title label measures 9 x 6.75".

In fair condition. Clam-shell exhibits general shel-wear, i.e., lightly scuffed edges and corners. Red leather title label on clam-shell is rubbed at edge adjacent to rear hinge, but intact and legible. Paper front cover detached from binding, with chips at both top left and top right corner. Detached front cover also exhibits a moderate to large tear from fore-edge to about mid-way across cover. Paper spine heavily desecrated; a few pieces remain attached with rear cover, but title is illegible. Rear cover (along with spine remnants) detached from binding. Ex-libris bookplate found on front paste-down: H. Richard Tyler. Ex-library blind stamp found at bottom of title page: Boston Psychopathic Hospital. General toning throughout text-block, with instances of finger soiling and age-staining. Text-block's binding is intact, but very fragile & covers detached. Clam-shell intact. Please see photos.

This work gives a thorough and comprehensive explanation of the terms in the title, being an etiologic, clinical and therapeutic study of the various disturbances in the equilibrium of the nervous system, especially in the sympathetic and the vegetative nervous systems. Beginning with the vagotonia of Eppinger and Hess, Guillaume points out that this condition corresponds to the general condition classified as neuroses, and the term must be limited and modified to described the actual vagus disturbance as seen clinically. He shows, further, the relationship and contrast between the vagotonia and sympqathicotonia. For the general practitioner, the work is somewhat profound and specialized.

A complete work, with a protective custom clam-shell included with purchase. A reading copy.
