The Selmer CP100 is a now discontinued ebonite (hard or vulcanized rubber) clarinet mouthpiece which was offered in a range of three models (118, 122 and 125), each with a unique combination of tip opening (distance between tip of mouthpiece and tip of reed) and facing length (distance from tip opening to where reed first touches the mouthpiece).

It would be an excellent upgrade for a progressing player who wants to move from a basic plastic mouthpiece to a good quality ebonite mouthpiece. It will enable the player to improve their technique on their beginner instrument before investing in a more expensive model.

As a rule of thumb, a narrower tip opening is more suited to a harder reed. The '122' model would most suit players, those using reeds of strength 2 or 2½. The '118' is better for harder reeds of 2½ or above; the '125' for softer, i.e. 2 or below.

Manufacturer’s description:

‘A very flexible mouthpiece adaptable to various playing situations (from solo work to playing in an orchestral clarinet section). It is an easy-blowing, controllable, full-tone mouthpiece with excellent tuning balance across the scale. An interesting professional mouthpiece.’

Note: Selmer has overhauled its range of clarinet mouthpieces, replacing long established designs including the Standard, C85 and CP100 with two new mouthpieces, the Focus and the Concept.
