Openmediavault installed on a old Android TV box with with similar specs to a Raspberry Pi.  One important difference is that the box includes internal emmc storage so that the box doesn't need to use a microsd to boot the system as the system is installed on the emmc.

The box is just a tiny, standalone NAS device and all that is required is an external USB hard drive which is not included and a Ethernet connection to access the box via the web Interface.

Openmediavault has no issues running on a repurposed Android TV box, but the box does have a few deficiencies that have to be mentioned such as the box only has USB 2.0 or older ports and the box might only have 10/100 Ethernet rather than Gigabit. The reality is that it might take more time to copy large files over the network to the box, but accessing most things on the attached drive will take much less time so it could it would work just fine for many things including storage and streaming media.

What is openmediavault?

openmediavault is the next generation network attached storage (NAS) solution based on Debian Linux. It contains services like SSH, (S)FTP, SMB/CIFS, RSync and many more ready to use. Thanks to the modular design of the framework it can be enhanced via plugins. openmediavault is primarily designed to be used in small offices or home offices, but is not limited to those scenarios. It is a simple and easy to use out-of-the-box solution that will allow everyone to install and administrate a Network Attached Storage without deeper knowledge.
