Antique French Watercolor Painting, Seascape in Normandy,
Villers-sur-Mer, Cliffs, Signed, 1925
This charming antique French watercolor depicts a seascape with cliffs and rocks in Villers-sur-Mer, on the Normandy coast, between Deauville and Cabourg. The painting shows a view of the “Falaise des Vaches Noires” (Black Cow Cliff). To sailors, the rocks fallen from the cliffs onto the shore and covered with seaweed resembled a herd of black cows, hence the name. It is signed “G. Lemaistre” and the back bears the date “1925”. This piece is in very good condition with the exception of signs of normal age. Please refer to the detailed photos on this page.
